Skirts For Fun and Work
After seasons of hyperhip pants -- low-slung, bootcut, embellished, denim -- skirts make a comeback! But not just any skirt will do. The newest skirts are soft and feminine with layers, tiers, ruffles, lace and sheer prints. These beyond-basic styles also feature slits, hanky hems, assymetry and do-it-yourself-looking trims (the denims). Lengths range from microminis to floor-sweeping styles, with the most wearable lengths falling knee-length to lower calf.
When you're looking to ditch cozy jeans for something prettier, try turning to an above-the-knee skirt that has some swish to it. Mini skirts are an obvious option because they look hot and keep you cool. Knee- and calf-length styles shouldn't be singled out, though, because they're easier to pull off and much more versatile than their tiny counterpart. Denim skirts are such a classic. They have the ability to dress up a basic tank or dress down a glitzy top. If you are blue jeaned-out, white denim is fabulous. It's a more glamorous than blue denim, yet just as versatile. When paired with simplest of tops, the mini-version of last year's peasant skirt is very fresh. For some reason, an itty-bitty mini is easier to pull of when bedecked with ruffles and in a looser fit. In addition to a low-key top, a simple flat is required with these skimpy skirts.
